The Kyubi Experience

A Retreat of Serenity and Discovery

Kyubi Spirit Lodge Niseko, deriving its name from “九尾 Kyubi” which means Nine-Tails in Japanese, is a homage to the powerful and wise nine-tailed fox spirit associated with Inari, the Shinto god of rice, prosperity, and fertility. As you explore the Niseko countryside, you might catch a glimpse of these spirit foxes, guardians that watch over and protect those with pure hearts. Kyubi Spirit Lodge Niseko offers a private retreat to replenish the mind, body, and spirit.

The Spirit of Adventure & Rebirth

Kyubi nine tails fox

Folklore and History of the 9 Tail Fox

In Japanese folklore, the "Kyūbi no Kitsune" (九尾の狐) is a nine-tailed fox, symbolizing the peak of magical power and wisdom. These mythical foxes are known for their intelligence, longevity, and shape-shifting abilities — often taking human form to become tricksters, guardians, or even lovers. As they grow older and more powerful, they gain additional tails, with nine being the ultimate form.

Folklore and History of the 9 Tail Fox

One of the most significant roles of Kitsune in Japanese mythology is their connection to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, prosperity, and fertility. Kitsune are considered Inari's messengers and servants. In this context, they are often portrayed as benevolent, protecting Inari's shrines and worshippers. Kitsune associated with Inari are typically depicted as white, a color symbolizing good spirits in Japanese culture.

Inari's shrines, scattered throughout Japan, often feature statues of foxes, reflecting the Kitsune's revered status in relation to this deity. These statues and the associated folklore underscore the deep cultural and religious significance of the Kitsune in Japanese tradition.
